Events and Activities Highlights (15 July 2022)

Dear Legal practitioners, Arbitrators, Mediators, and Friends,

2022 has been an eventful year and a new start for eBRAM Centre. We would like to update you on our newly launched online platforms and remind you of our available services.

As an ODR institution, eBRAM Centre launched various sets of dispute resolution rules, including the arbitration rules and mediation rules. Pursuant to the eBRAM’s Rules, all cases administered by the Centre shall be conducted on the eBRAM platform. In October 2022, eBRAM officially launched its online Arbitration Platform and Mediation Platform.

eBRAM Arbitration Platform

What?

eBRAM’s Arbitration Platform is a fully-fledged platform, offering more than online hearings or a case management system. It provides other distinctive features, such as an AI machine translation, online payment options, an e-signing system, a video-conferencing room as well as real time transcription system. Who?

All arbitration cases administered under the eBRAM arbitration rules will be conducted on the eBRAM Arbitration Platform.

When parties choose to resolve their disputes through ad hoc arbitration without an administering institution, they may also use the eBRAM Arbitration Platform, to facilitate collaboration and the sharing of documents in an efficient and secure way, and hold online meetings conveniently. eBRAM Mediation Platform

What?

eBRAM Centre also launched a Mediation Platform to facilitate the conduct of the mediation process, by providing a fully-fledged system with video-conferencing facilities including dedicated breakout and caucus rooms, a communication box, online payment options as well as e-signing, real time transcription and AI machine translation services.

All mediation cases governed by the eBRAM Mediation Rules will be conducted on the eBRAM Mediation Platform. Click here for a copy of the mediation rules.

Who?

Parties to a mediation conducted in accordance with the eBRAM mediation rules shall file their request for mediation, and exchange all communications through the eBRAM Mediation Platform.

Parties to a mediation not administered by eBRAM may also use the eBRAM Platform.

eBRAM LawTech services

Legal Cloud Portal

The Hong Kong Legal Cloud Portal (“Portal”) is a platform jointly built by lawyers and IT specialists. With subsidies from The Department of Justice, eligible local legal and dispute resolution professionals will enjoy free access to the Cloud storage and other LawTech services for up to three years, subject to the availability of the fund.

The Portal is equipped with 3 key features, including a highly secure Document Storage and Exchange, a comprehensive Hong Kong Research Platform and Machine Translation Services (currently available for English, Chinese (in traditional and simplified characters), Russian, Arabic, and Spanish) with the option of professional human translator to edit and refine the translation.

Other LawTech tools developed by eBRAM Centre: highly secure video-conferencing, e-signature and online translation services

Security is our priority. In order to provide online dispute resolution services that are highly secure, eBRAM’s IT team has developed (i) a video-conferencing platform, (ii) a machine translation and (iii) e-signing system, which have been integrated into the eBRAM Arbitration and Mediation Platforms.

In November 2022, we have decided to roll out our LawTech Services Portal , to offer our video-conferencing, machine translation and e-signing systems for use by the legal and business communities.

UPCOMING EVENT

eBRAM ODR Platforms Launch Event

Mid-February 2023

A launch event to introduce the Online Arbitration Platform and Online Mediation Platform to the legal and dispute resolution communities will be arranged in mid-February 2023.

In-Person ODR training sessions

eBRAM will organise in-person training sessions for lawyers and dispute resolution practitioners to learn how to use the online Mediation and Arbitration Platforms. Trainings will take place on the second and fourth week of the month, starting from the last week of February 2023. Online registration will open soon.
