International Organization for Mediation Officially Inaugurated in Hong Kong — A New Milestone for Global Mediation!
21 October 2025
Yesterday marked a historic moment as the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) officially held its inauguration ceremony in Hong Kong, signifying the establishment of the world’s first intergovernmental organisation dedicated to resolving international disputes through mediation. This milestone also underscores Hong Kong’s remarkable progress toward becoming a true “City of Mediation.”
The IOMed Council announced the appointment of Prof. Teresa CHENG Yeuk-wah, SC as Secretary-General, and Dr. SUN Jin as Deputy Secretary-General. The ceremony was graced by Mr. John LEE, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), alongside representatives from 8 contracting States and 87 senior officials from 31 of the 37 signatory States.
H.E. Ms. HUA Chunying, Chairperson of the Governing Council, also delivered remarks, recognizing IOMed as a vital platform for advancing the international rule of law and promoting peaceful dispute resolution.
As a strong advocate of mediation and LawTech innovation, eBRAM was honoured to attend this significant event, represented by Dr. Thomas So, JP, Chairman, and Mr. Ronald Sum, JP, Vice Chairman — reaffirming eBRAM’s commitment to supporting the development of global mediation.
eBRAM remains dedicated to promoting professional mediation services and talent development. We look forward to deepening collaboration with the International Organization for Mediation and contributing to the continued growth of the global mediation community.
